The Ringleader

Bryan, Megan, Mike and I have been saying ever since they and the Fields' had kids that James would end up being the ringleader of the bunch. Well, last night was a perfect example. Bryan and Megan and I got together to just hang out and watch a movie with the kids. Well, James had been given a GIANT lollipop earlier in the day so I figured he could eat it while we hung out. We went in the kitchen for a few minutes and came back to the following:

Logan had never had a lollipop before and we didn't think he would even know what to do with it but apparently James is a good teacher. LOL. They're going to be TROUBLE when they get older :) Miraculously, not too much blue ended up on the rug or the furniture and we were able to get it all off before bedtime. The boys, on the other hand, were a bit more difficult. James is still a little blue around the mouth this morning. I figure it will wash off eventually......right?

Thank You!

A huge thank you to Jeanne and Erik for the ability to organise my spice shelf!!!! My kitchen works so much better now :)

On another note: thank you to everyone who was able to attend Christmas dinner. We had a blast and are so grateful for our friends and family. We also appreciate and love all the gifts that we received....many of which you'll probably see featured here over the next few weeks.

We love you all,
The Qs

THINK...

PINK!

(or don't actually...baby pink is a rather unattractive color)

The Qs are having a GIRL!

Feel free to gloat about how wrong Q was since he took such great pains to endlessly announce to the world that there was no way this could be possible. We all know that q^2 will have him wrapped around her little finger in no time. We can all just think of this as prep for the future.

Before anyone starts to ask, NO we don't have names yet. We decided early on that we only wanted to argue about 1 name rather than 2 so we've held off thinking about names until now. So, we'll start the debate process and eventually come up with something. Suggestions are welcome (you can leave them in the comments) but we will most likely not announce our name choice until q^2 is born. There have to be some surprises in this process after all, right? :)

Look Mom!

I picked out my own clothes. Apparently he is an elephant today, though why that means he is wearing a swim floaty is beyond me.

q goes to the aquarium

Last Saturday, Larry and Sonia (Q's parents) took q to the aquarium to see all the fish (and give me a break so I could run some errands! Thanks!!!). They all had a blast and James LOVED seeing all the fish. Sonia sent me a couple of pictures and I just had to share them.

More Halloween Pics

By popular request we have more Halloween pictures!

q and I met up with Jason and Karen Cook (and Ellie!) to make orange rice krispie treats, halloween cookies and go trick or treating at the Irvine Spectrum. Once James figured out that CANDY was involved he was all about the trick or treating concept. He even insisted that he was going to "do it all by myself" so he walked into the stores and said "Trick or Treat, please" to the people handing out candy while I waited by the door. He even remembered the "thank you" part most of the time :) He had a blast and is now enjoying all the candy we brought home....after I stole my favorites, of course.

Here he is standing next to Ellie who was Sushi! She had the most adorable costume ever though you can't really see it in this picture. The headband is some "grass" garnish with wasabi and ginger on it and the onsie has a piece of "salmon" with a strip of "seaweed" that goes all the way around. Too Cute.

In this pic, I'm realizing just how BIG our tv looks. sigh....boys.

Bob and Carol also sent me an amazing picture of a pumpkin they carved. They have this really cool software that turns any photo into a pumpkin carving template. This year they did one of James!

And here is my favorite picture. This was taken a few weeks ago at Sawyer's birthday party. It had a pirate theme and James totally embraced the concept. He stayed in the hat and eye-patch for at least 2 hours of the part and brought them home so that he could wear them around the house too. He even let Q put the "earrings" on him!

Halloween Success

I have been trying for weeks now to get q to put his dinosaur costume on (the one he specifically asked for).....and we finally got it! Just in time too.

And yes, I know it's really a dragon...but he refuses to think that so it's officially a dinosaur.

San Diego Fun

My dear friend Megan was one of the people who came on vacation with us this past weekend. Okay, let me re-phrase. Megan's in-laws have an AWESOME house on Coronado and we went as a group with the Fields and the Scheidlers to play for the weekend. Since I get an F in photos, I totally rely on Megan to take all the pics and then I steal them from her. Here's a sampling of her photography. For more Scheidler fun check out her blog Through the eyes of a Scheidler.

A Breakfast Surprise

Today, Mike planned a surprise for me. Normally I hate surprises...but he finally found one that didn't make me mad. He worked breakfast! One of the more "interesting" aspects of Q's job is that we work pretty much opposite schedules. Normally he has Tuesday and Wednesday as his weekend, while I work 7-4 Monday through Friday....and he doesn't go in to work until 3ish. All of that means that we have only had dinner like a normal working couple a handful of times in the 6 1/2 years we've been married (wow I'm old).

Then comes today. As I mentioned earlier, Q worked breakfast which meant that, since I left work late, we got home within 15 minutes of each other! Since we had one of my favorite wines, Stag's Leap Petite Syrah, sitting on the counter and a pork tenderloin hanging out in the fridge, I decided to make dinner.

This dinner was fairly quick and super easy....hmmm....I just realized that those are in "Trisha's World" so maybe they're not in reality? Someone else will have to try this and let me know. But this is all made from ingredients I typically have in the house (other than the green onions...which are optional) and I was able to throw it all together in about 40-45 minutes. It would have been a bit faster but my tenderloin was about double the size the recipe called for.

Epicurious will be your best friend soon, if it isn't already, I promise. Here are the recipes for everything but the green beans. You'll see a note on those later.

Pork Tenderloin with Balsamic Cranberry Sauce - If you make sure to brown the pork on all sides it forms a wonderful crispy crust on the outside and stays super tender and juicy on the inside. I used a copper/stainless pan so I added a few tablespoons of Olive Oil to the butter since it wasn't non-stick. It was super crispy and tender all at once. YUM!

Corn Muffins with Green Onions and Sour Cream - go easy on the salt (or make sure you have unsalted butter on hand) and these will be SUPER. They were also super easy.

If you want to make green beans too, just add the fresh green beans to the leftover pan drippings and oil after removing the pork, add some chicken stock and a bit of garlic and stick a lid on the pan over medium heat for 6 minutes or so. Then, take the lid off, crank up the heat and brown the veggies. They were FABULOUS.

I'm realizing, after typing all of this and reviewing the recipes, that I probably have a crazy pantry and stock of random ingredients. Anyway....this is a meal that will impress without too much time spent in the kitchen so it's worth a trip to the store if you want to make a special meal.

Fashion Statements

My child now insists on choosing his own clothes. On tonight: dinosaur Christmas shirt and aligator "boxer briefs". LOL

At the OC Fair

On Wednesday of this week Q took q to the OC Fair while I was at work. We went a few years ago and it was a hot miserable place but apparently this year the weather was better and it wasn't swarming with people. They had a blast doing a whole bunch of things Mommy would NOT have approved of. Like......

Eating a deep fried Klondike bar (ick):

Pony Rides, on the other hand, are completely Mom friendly :)
And q went on the Pirate ride, which he has been talking about ever since. Apparently he was a DISASTER because he couldn't go on most of the big-kid rides since he isn't 36" tall yet. This kid has no fear. Though at least I'll have a roller coaster buddy later on since Q gets sick on the FERRIS WHEEL which means he definitely doesn't go on rides with me.

They also spend a lot of time at the petting zoo.

They had a great day and even made it home in time for a nap.
