Another first :-(

Well, if you saw the walking post (below) you'll probably guess where this one is going. We had our first ER visit and first set of stitches this weekend. (Photos not for the squeemish)

James and I were visiting our dear friends Jason and Karen in San Diego on Sunday. At about 5:30pm James was practicing his walking between their couch and coffee table and before we knew it he had tripped and bashed his head against the table. He hit the corner just right (well, I guess just wrong) and opened up a HUGE gash at his hairline all the way down to the bone.

So, off to the ER we went. Luckily they weren't too busy and they took care of us quickly. I guess when you walk in with a screaming, bloody infant you don't get ignored or wait-listed! The doctors and nurses were excellent but our poor little q got 16 stitches to fix him up.

If he has the Jebbia head-bashing gene (courtesy of my Dad) I'm sure we'll be doing more of this. Hopefully not soon though!

OUCH! That's one big gash for a little head.

All set up for suturing....

One knot at a time. It's really interesting how they tie them off. I've never gotten to see stitches put in so up-close-and-personal before.

All Done! Our little Daniel-san pulled through like a champ...though with LOTS of screaming for sure. He definitely does NOT like being restrained. Note to self...never swaddle this one again.

Ouch for sure! We took this in the bath tonight (no, those aren't tears). Poor guy has a huge bruise too. But it doesn't seem to be bothering him. He was trying to run down the hallway when I got home from work and then tried to climb up and over the couch. He has no fear....I'm in trouble.

We Have a Walker

I have been trying for about 2 1/2 weeks to get a video of James "walking" and failed. It was so cute with him all wobbly and stumbling. Then I finally get a chance to really sit down and make SURE that I get a video this morning.....and he's walking like he's been a pro for months. Sigh....I fail. I am SO bummed that I didn't capture the cuteness. Oh well. At least I got something, right?

So, here's the video of him walking down our hallway, holding one of his new favorite "toys"....a hanger.

Dancing Man

James LOVES music. So much so that he will seek out any music source and sit in front of it and dance. His favorite thing about most of his toys is the music and he will push the buttons over and over so he can stand next to the toy and dance.

He definitely does it with the shopping cart he got for Christmas. Unfortunately, I'm always a little slow with the camera.....But Sonia isn't! She got a video of James putting his arms in the air and dancing to the music.

He is just such a crack up.

Check out the video HERE on Snapfish.

James' First "Official" Haircut

Mike and I have given James haircuts before, mostly because I couldn't stand the shaggy mess. But he's started to get to wiggly for me to do it and we didn't want to just buzz it this time. So, we decided it was time for a "real" haircut.

Mike gets his hair cut at a place in Irvine called Metro for Men. This is one of those shi-shi salons for men where they give you a beer and have a flat screen at every station tuned into some sports chanel. I'm sure none of you are surprised by this revelation considering....well....it's Q. They have this father/son haircut combo and a direct link to the cartoon network to keep the kids distracted.

Once James saw the cartoons he was hooked and between that and flirting with Mike's stylist it looks like he had a great time. Q took tons of pictures and I couldn't resist sharing them with you.

All Done!

It's amazing how much more grown up he looks after just a little trim.

James vs. The Big Red Truck

Saturday, James and I picked Jason and Karen up from the Metro station in Orange since they were trying out a new route for Jason to get to work. Trial runs of public transportation provide the perfect excuse for playtime!

After I picked them up we headed over to the Spectrum to wander around, shop and have dinner before they headed back home. The OC Fire Department was doing a promotion and had a HUGE fire truck sitting in front of the ferris wheel for kids to explore and talk to firemen.

James was fascinated by all the colors and buttons. And he clearly felt right at home driving!

Birthday Fun from Auntie Jeanne

So about a month ago, Jeanne asked what James would like for his birthday. I thought about it and remembered this awesome toy that I had seen a Greg and Laura’s and knew it would be perfect. So I had her get us the super fun, super obnoxious ball popper.

Here it is:

Basically, you push the red button and it plays music and a fan pushes air around the tubes. The air makes the balls “pop” out of the top and they are supposed to then go back down the shoot into the tube to come out again. Here is James pushing the button to get it started:

And a few shots of him playing with it:

Now the SUPER fun part of this toy is shown here. The balls and tube are JUST the right size for James to stick his ENTIRE arm into the toy to either pull out or PUT IN different items. (I’m sure you can see where this is going….)

Well, before we realized this was the case we left it in his playroom with all his other toys….and we came back to find it FULL of everything BUT the balls that were supposed to go in there. There were the plastic cookies from his shopping cart, a square from his shape sorter, one of the plastic rings that lock together to attach toys to things….you get the idea. Here is his most recent attempt. We caught this one before there were too many items inside.

The other really fun part of this toy is that the balls are just SLIGHTLY smaller than the balls that came with all his other toys…..and so the other balls get stuck:

Luckily Mommy obsessively reads directions and remembered that it specifically mentioned that the toy was able to be disassembled. At first I didn’t understand why…..and then I realized that it is the only way to get all the extra toys out.

For your additional viewing pleasure (and mostly for my sister who can’t see him play with it in person), here is a video of him with his new favorite toy. Sorry it's sideways. I rotated it....and saved it that way....but it won't let me upload the corrected version.

Expert Crawler

So, a while ago I posted a video taken the first weekend that James started to crawl. The videos below are from this afternoon. He has totally mastered crawling and is amazingly fast! As you can see here he is trying to get his feet under himself so he can start walking.
